David Howell, FSA - Chief Executive Officer
David has overall responsibility for all of Pacific Life Re’s activities. David’s career in life reinsurance spans nearly 20 years and has included a diverse range of geographic responsibilities, most recently as a senior executive with Swiss Re. From 2003 to 2005, David was Chief Pricing Officer for Swiss Re's life reinsurance business in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. From 2001 to 2003, he was Chief Pricing Officer of Swiss Re's UK and Irish life reinsurance business. Prior to 2001, he held a variety of roles with Swiss Re and Mercantile & General Reinsurance covering various aspects of both traditional and non-traditional reinsurance within the US, Canada, the Caribbean, the Middle East and the UK.

 

David Heeney, FIA - Chief Marketing Officer, UK and Ireland
David runs the Sales and Marketing function for the UK and Ireland markets with overall responsibility for client management, business development, quotations and marketing strategy. He has over 25 years of insurance and reinsurance market experience spanning technical, relationship management and general management responsibilities. He began his career with Legal & General where he spent 11 years. He qualified as an actuary in 1988 and progressed to Head of Product Management and Actuary (Pensions). He joined Swiss Re in 1995, initially running the UK Corporate Actuarial function and helping to develop their financial reinsurance business. Following Swiss Re’s acquisition of Mercantile & General Reinsurance he moved to a global product management role. Latterly he spent two years as a Global Client Manager responsible for coordinating client relationships at top management level with Swiss Re’s largest clients worldwide.

 

Alex King, FIA – Head of Protection, UK and Ireland
Alex is responsible for developing UK protection opportunities and managing existing client relationships. Alex is an actuary with over 10 years’ experience in the UK protection market. Before moving into reinsurance, he spent seven years at HSBC in a variety of roles including product pricing and reinsurance negotiation. His main responsibility was to price and develop all of HSBC's protection products sold through their bank branches. This experience gave him an excellent understanding of individual client needs and a strong ability to tailor reinsurance solutions and offer creative ideas based on practical experience in the direct market.

 

Andy McAleese, FIA - Head of Annuity Transactions, UK and Ireland
Andy is responsible for the development and implementation of UK and Irish annuity opportunities and the design of new longevity solutions. He has extensive experience in the UK insurance and reinsurance market. Andy spent seven years at Revios (formerly Gerling Global Re) and was heavily involved in leading the growth of that company’s business, having roles in pricing, client management and marketing, including a secondment to the company’s Singapore Branch. Andy also has direct office experience, having started his career at Canada Life.

 

Warren Copp - Chief Underwriter
Warren has overall responsibility for the underwriting and claims functions of Pacific Life Re. He has over 20 years experience in life insurance and reinsurance across the UK and Irish life markets. Prior to joining Pacific Life Re, he spent almost 10 years with Swiss Re progressing to Underwriting Manager Life & Health for UK & Ireland. He began his career with Friends Provident before joining Norwich Union Healthcare where he spent three years as an Underwriting Supervisor. In 2001, he acted as interim Chief Underwriter for Tata AIG in India during the launch of that business.

 

Paul Reddick - Head of Medical Underwriting & Claims
Paul is responsible for the day to day running of the underwriting and claims teams of Pacific Life Re. He has 25 years experience in the life and health insurance industry and has held several senior positions with various direct insurers and reinsurance companies during his career. Paul's underwriting career began with Allianz Cornhill in 1985 where he progressed to Chief Underwriter for individual life and disability business. He then moved in 2000 to XL Re as Senior Underwriter based in their London office where he was responsible for managing their individual and group underwriting risks. From 2002 to 2004, Paul worked for Sterling Life, a direct office specialising in international and sub-standard risks typical of the London Lloyds market. Paul has been in his current role for four years and has developed significant knowledge of both UK and international underwriting and claims markets.

 

Paul Lewis, FIA – Head of Pricing, UK and Ireland
Paul manages the UK Pricing Team who are responsible for the delivery of reinsurance terms for term assurance, mortality, critical illness, income protection and longevity solutions. He joined pacific life re in 2007 as the Head of Research. Paul is an actuary with ten years experience in the life and health sector. He spent six years at Swiss Re primarily involved in the pricing and marketing of individual and group lines. He was also the Insurance Risk Manager for the UK Life and Health division. Prior to joining Swiss Re, Paul spent two years at NPI, and between his roles at Swiss Re and Pacific Life Re he spent a short time at Genworth Financial.

 

Duncan Hayward, ACA - Chief Financial Officer
Duncan is responsible for managing the Finance, IT and Administration teams. He spent 11 years with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, qualifying as an ACA in 1990. His responsibilities spanned insurance sector audit work and special projects out of the London office and he also spent three years based in Singapore. Following his return from Asia in 1997, Duncan spent six years with Royal & Sun Alliance in a Group Finance role, latterly reporting directly to the Group Finance Director. In 2003, Duncan joined Swiss Re and worked both in Zurich and London. He ran the Finance, Actuarial and Administration teams for the Asian, Central European and Latin American Life and Health businesses.

 

Jerry Staffurth, FIA - Chief Actuary
Jerry is responsible for the Corporate Actuarial, Research and Actuarial Modelling functions. He is the Company's Actuarial Function Holder. Jerry qualified as an actuary in 1990 and has over 20 years’ experience of actuarial roles in the insurance market. He started his actuarial career with Equity & Law (now part of the Axa Group) and also spent three years working for Colonial Mutual in New Zealand. More recently, Jerry worked for Swiss Life (UK) for 13 years up to the end of 2004, including eight years as Appointed Actuary. He subsequently joined Deloitte & Touche as a Director in their Actuarial and Insurance practice. At Deloitte, he was responsible for a diverse range of projects in the UK life market, including capital management, product strategy, audit and M&A. He has been involved in a number of actuarial working parties and has contributed to papers on Critical Illness and Treating Customers Fairly.

 

George Scott, Solicitor - General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer                                                                                  George is responsible for legal, compliance and risk issues. He has extensive experience of reinsurance documentation and structuring solutions to meet client needs.  George has overall responsibility for all regulatory and compliance matters and has served as Pacific Life Re's Chief Risk Officer since 2006 during which time he has significantly enhanced the Company's risk management controls and processes. George joined Pacific Life Re from Royal & Sun Alliance where he was involved in several major disposals covering four continents. He was previously at Nomura International plc supporting its corporate finance and private equity operations. George trained with the City law firm, Ashurst where he qualified as a solicitor in 1995.

 

 

David Cowling, FCMA, ACII - Head of Administration
David is responsible for all reinsurance administration activities within Pacific Life Re. His career in insurance includes 30 years with RSA and 3 years with Swiss Re. As a qualified Accountant, David held a variety of management and financial positions within RSA, culminating in the appointment as Group Accountant, a position he held for six years. Following the merger of Royal Insurance and Sun Alliance in 1997, David played a key role in establishing a 'green field' Reinsurance Support (Property & Casualty) operation in Essex. David also worked for Swiss Re's Life & Health operation in Zurich in an Interim Management capacity prior to joining Pacific Life Re in August 2007.

 

 

Carrie Holder MA HRM, CIPD - Head of Human Resources
Carrie is responsible for managing the HR function at Pacific Life Re. She joined the Company in 2006 as an HR Advisor. Carrie is an HR generalist with 10 years experience. Prior to joining Pacific Life Re, she worked at Royal Mail Group in a number of roles both in the business and in the Group HR function.
