What attracted you to Pacific Life Re?
I was drawn to the focus on innovation and adaptability within the company. I could see that it was company with lots of expertise but also with a dynamic work environment. The emphasis on employee well-being and supporting a healthy work life balance was also a huge factor as I knew that I would be really supported in my role.
Describe your job responsibilities and share which aspects you enjoy the most
I work in the corporate actuarial, longevity team so at the end of each quarter my work revolves around reporting. We collate and analyse all of our results from the period, checking they are expected and if not looking into any differences. Outside of the quarter end there are various other projects and implementations which I work on with my team.
I really enjoy working on a problem or a process I've never seen before or trying to find out how something works and then it finally clicking. I enjoy asking questions learning about why we do different things not just how.
I enjoy learning new skills, I have had the opportunity to work on lots of new software and I've spent a lot of time getting to grips with each one, which has been fun.
What are the 3 most important or surprising things you’ve learned here?
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When I'm not working I love to spend time cooking and baking and going out with my friends. I really enjoy exploring different areas of London at the weekends as I moved here for my internship and I'm constantly discovering new things to do.
What’s the best thing about working here?
I think the best thing about working for Pacific Life Re is the willingness of everyone to help. I am not afraid to ask questions and everyone in my team is happy to devote time to explaining things to me or going through things that I don't understand which has helped me to learn so much.
